Hayao Miyazaki's 11th and final film The Wind Rises (Studio Ghibli) lost to Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee's Frozen (Disney) at the Critics' Choice Awards on Thursday. The Wind Rises was also competing against The Croods, Despicable Me 2, and Monsters University for Best Animated Feature.
The Wind Rises is nominated for an Oscar in the Animated Feature Film category. The film lost to The Great Beauty (La grande bellezza) by Italy's Paolo Sorrentino — in the Best Foreign-Language Film category — at the 71st Annual Golden Globes on Sunday. The film was nominated for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards but did not win, and is nominated for an Annie Award and a Satellite Award. The Wind Rises has also recently won the Best Animated Film Award from the New York Film Critics Circle, The National Board of Review, The Boston Society of Film Critics, the San Diego Film Critics Society, The Chicago Film Critics Association, the Online Film Critics Society, and the Toronto Film Critics Association.
