Aniplex USA Reveals Theater Lineup for Anohana Film Screenings (Updated)

Aniplex of America announced on Thursday the theatrical lineup for its upcoming screening of the Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai. (anohana The Movie: The Flower We Saw That Day) film. Aniplex USA is working with Eleven Arts and will screen the film starting on January 18 in 28 theaters in the United States, and then starting on February 9 in 35 theaters in Canada. Additionally, the film's producer Hiroyuki Shimizu will attend a screening in Los Angeles. All screenings will be in Japanese with English subtitles.
Those who attend screenings will receive limited quantities of an exclusive "Letters from Menma" replica of letters the character "Menma" writes to her friends in the film. Attendees will receive real flower seeds with the replica letters. Ticketholders can also get an limited qualities of an autograph print signed by director Tatsuyuki Nagai, script writer Mari Okada, and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka. The movie opened on August 31 in theaters across Japan. The film retells the anohana story from the character Menma's point of view with a new epilogue.
The film opened at 64 theaters and then expanded to about 100 theaters. The film sold 161,225 tickets for 198,177,700 yen (about US$1.989 million) in its opening weekend. As of October 27, the movie was seen 754,341 times and earned 1,009,290,700 yen (US$10.334 million).
The Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai. television anime series debuted in Japan in 2011. Crunchyroll streamed the 11-episode series online. NIS America released the anime on Blu-ray Disc and DVD under the title anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day last year.
Update: Aniplex USA has updated its website to note that instead of a poster, those who attend the screenings can get an autograph movie print, which will be signed by director Tatsuyuki Nagai, script writer Mari Okada, and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka.
