Pupipō! Horror Comedy Anime's Ad Promotes Friday Premiere
posted on by Egan Loo
On Monday, anime studio AIC began streaming a promotional video to promote the Friday premiere of the horror comedy television anime Pupipō! In the video, the schoolgirl Wakaba Himeji trains the pink creature Pō-chan to recite the weekly anime shorts' premiere date: Friday, December 20 at 25:53 (effectively Saturday, December 21 at 1:53 a.m.) on TV Tokyo.
The original manga by Rensuke Oshikiri (Hi-Score Girl) centers around Wakaba Himeji, a fifth-grade girl who can see things others cannot. As a result, she is scared by her surroundings, keeps her distance from others, and lives a lonely life. One day, she meet a mysterious soft, pink creature that cries "Pupipō!" — and her life is changed from that day forward.
Chisato Mori plays the pink creature Pō-chan
Mai Goto plays Reiko "Aa-chan" Azuma, a cheerful girl with glasses who is a fan of occult interests. She transfers into Wakaba's class
Kotomi Otsuka plays Naoya Yūki, Wakaba's classmate who can not only see spirits, but also see their past when he touches them
Setsuo Itō plays Ryōhei Ameyama, Wakaba's classmate who has a love-hate relationship with her
Hanae Ōkubo plays Miyori Sonoda, Wakaba's classmate who likes Yūki but hates Wakaba
Keiji Fujiwara and Misao play Wakaba's papa and mama, respectively, and Tadashi Miyazawa plays Bakusan-sensei.
Kaoru Suzuki is directing the anime at AIC PLUS+. Motoshi Chūjō is in charge of the series scripts, and Takumi Yokota is designing the characters.
The manga ran in the free web comic magazine Flex Comix Blood from 2007 and 2009. The Comic Meteor web site is now offering the manga, and three compiled book volumes have been published.
