Sword Art Online and Nisemonogatari Released Monday
posted on by Andrew Osmond
On Monday December 16, Manga Entertainment will release the first volume of the fantasy adventure series Sword Art Online in two editions; a Blu-ray/DVD combi pack (pictured right) and a standalone DVD. Sword Art Online adapts Kawahara's (Accel World) light novel series of the same name.
A decade in the future, hundreds of youngsters enter a brand-new, virtual-reality, massively multi-player online (MMO) world called "Sword Art Online." They are then astonished to be told by the game's creator that there is no escape from this fantasy world unless a player clears the game. Any players who are 'killed' in the game, or who are disconnected from the game in the real world, will die instantly.
Manga had previously confirmed that Sword Art Online will be released in four parts, each released as both a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack (SRP £29.99) and a DVD (SRP £19.99). Part 1 carries the first 7 episodes; part 2 will carry episodes 8-14; part 3 will carry episodes 15-19; and part 4 will carry episodes 20-25. Jermemy Graves of Manga commented that the four-part format was 'part of the terms of the agreement to get the show out quickly.'
MVM will release the first half of Nisemonogatari, sequel to Bakemonogatari, on both Blu-ray (pictured) and DVD. The series has been rated '18' by the BBFC for sexualised nudity, strong references to sex and incest, and strong gore.
According to the description on the Anime-on-Line website:
'Crab, snail, monkey, snake and cat... Supernatural incidents revolving around five girls were solved thanks to Koyomi Araragi. With these mysteries laid to rest, Koyomi Araragi can now begin to live a normal life, or at least so it seems...'His "unusual" life starts when Koyomi wakes up in a ruined school building, captured and chained by Hitagi Senjyogahara. She says, "I will protect you, Araragi!" Exactly what is Senjyogahara up to?! With Koyomi's two younger sisters Karen and Tsukihi (a.k.a the Fire Sisters) now involved, Koyomi once again finds himself tangled with apparitions!'
