Spike Lee's Oldboy film opened at #18 on Box Office Mojo's chart for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, earning a total of US$1,282,665 in 583 theaters. The film earned US$885,382 from November 29-December 1. It played on 583 screens for a per-screen average of US$2,200 over five days and US$1,519 on the final three days.
The Hollywood Reporter projected that the film may not earn US$2 million during the extended five-day Thanksgiving holiday period. Variety had projected last week that the film would earn US$2.5 million. The film has an estimated budget of US$30 million.
The top five films for the Thanksgiving weekend were The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Disney's Frozen, Thor: The Dark World, The Best Man Holiday, and Homefront.
