Riken Harima Branch's SPring-8 Angstrom Compact Free Electron Laser (SACLA) research center began streaming the "Mirai Koshi: Harima SACLA" anime short on Monday promoting the center's X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) device, which makes it possible for researches to observe atoms and molecules in real time.
Kamikaze Douga animated the short, which features the theme song "pico scope -SACLA-" by fripSide, and voice acting by Mamiko Noto. Rento Kohi is credited with the original work in the video.
SACLA has also produced a "secret origin story" manga for the character Harima SACLA, and also hosts desktop and iOS 7 wallpapers by various artists such as Mirai Film and Rento Kohi, toraco, macchiro, uki, and Kamikaze Douga.
The center previously streamed the "Picotopia" anime short from award-winning abstract animation director Mirai Mizue (Toru Matsumoto: AND AND., Modern No. 2, WONDER.) depicting the unseen world of cells, and the "Wasureboshi" pencil and watercolor animated short also narrated by Noto earlier this year.
