Rice Shoulder Female Boxing Manga to End This Month

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Tsuyoshi Nakaima's story of 18-year old girl scouted to box launched in 2007

This year's 50th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine is announcing on Thursday that it will publish the 194th and final chapter of Tsuyoshi Nakaima's Rice Shoulder manga in the next issue on November 21.

The story revolves around a 202-pound, 18-year old girl named Okome AKINO (whose name is a pun of "autumn rice"). After Okome enters a sumo match and wins against a male amateur fighter by a landslide, a trainer named Akane scouts her, and she enters the world of women's boxing.

Nakaima launched the manga in Morning in 2007, and Kodansha published the 17th compiled volume in Japan last month.

Nakaima's Ucchare Goshogawara sumo wrestling manga inspired a 50-minute video anime in 1991.
