The December issue of Akita Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine is announcing on Wednesday that artist Shinsuke Takahashi (Duel Masters Rev.) will serialize a sequel manga to Tohru Fujisawa's GTO: The Early Years (Shōnan Junai-gumi). The "true sequel," titled Shonan Seven, will be written by Fujisawa and premiere in the February issue on January 6.
GTO: The Early Years is the prequel to Fujisawa's GTO manga and follows Eikichi Onizuka and Ryuji Danma, known as the deadly duo Oni-Baku (Demon Explosion). The pair recant their previous gang lifestyle in the hopes of losing their virginity while battling their former adversaries. GTO: The Early Years was released in North America by publisher Vertical, Inc. and received a video anime adaptation. The series received its own prequel, Bad Company, which was adapted into a live-action video in 1998.
Fujisawa will launch the tentatively titled Red Data Planet manga in the January issue of Kodansha's Magazine Special publication on December 20. He is currently penning Kamen Teacher Black (the sequel to his four-volume Kamen Teacher manga series) and Ino Head Gargoyle (a spinoff of GTO) manga. He is also involved in the Tokko Zero manga with Yukai Asada and the Soul Reviver manga with Manabu Akishige.
