Viz Media Adds Shokugeki no Sōma Cooking Comedy Manga

North American manga publisher Viz Media announced on its Weekly Shonen Jump podcast on Monday that the company will release Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's Shokugeki no Sōma food manga under the name Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma.
Viz Media added that it will not be serializing the manga in its Weekly Shonen Jump digital manga magazine, but will release the series digitally and in print. The company said that it decided not to add the manga to the digital magazine because the series is "a little racy." The company plans to release the first volume in print in August 2014, but will release the volume digitally in spring 2014.
The manga centers on Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.
Saeki and Tsukuda launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last November, and Shueisha published the fourth compiled manga volume in September. Yuki Mirosaki, a cosplay chef and model, also contributes to the manga, and each volume of the manga features recipes.
