3rd Madoka Magica Film Earns 570 Million Yen in 5 Days (Updated)

The Nikkan Sports newspaper reported on Saturday that Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie -Rebellion- (Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica [Shinpen]: Hangyaku no Monogatari) earned over 570 million (about US$5.8 million) in the five days since it opened on October 26. The third Madoka Magica film topped the weekend box office by selling 271,279 tickets for 400,003,600 yen (about US$4 million).
A theater in Nagoya sold more tickets for the film on opening day than it has for any film since the theater opened in 2005. On October 26, 109 Cinemas Nagoya sold 4,542 tickets for the film.
Aniplex USA will screen the film in theaters in the United States and Canada beginning on December 6. Aniplex producer Atsuhiro Iwakami stated the day after the film opened that "the franchise is now at a blank page. Personally, I think if there is a chance for more…"
