No.6 Dystopian Science-Fiction Manga to End in November

Kodansha USA publishes Hinoki Kino's manga of Atsuko Asano's novels that also inspired anime

Kodansha's ARIA magazine announced on Monday that Atsuko Asano and Hinoki Kino's No. 6 manga will end in the January issue of the magazine on November 28th.

The manga, which had entered its final battle in August, is a post-apocalyptic, mystery series revolving around a young man named Shion, who houses another young man named "Nezumi" (Rat) for the night. Rat is on the run from the authorities and disappears by morning — only to reappear four years later to rescue Shion from arrest. Together, the two resist capture and attempt to uncover the secrets of City Number 6.

Kino launched the manga adaptation of Asano's nine-volume novel series in Aria in 2011 after providing the illustrations for the novels. Kodansha released the seventh compiled manga volume in Japan in August.

Kodansha Comics has licensed the series in North America, and the publisher released the third volume this month.

The novels also inspired an 11-episode television anime series in 2011 by BONES. Crunchyroll and The Anime Network both streamed the series as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on home video in North America last year.
