Square Enix Launches Indie Game Crowdfunding Program
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Video game developer Square Enix launched a new platform for independent game designers to crowdfund their ideas. Dubbed "Square Enix Collective," the site partnered with crowdfunding website Indiegogo to allow developers to pitch their ideas to a community of gamers. After 28 days on the "Collective feedback platform," developers can move forward to crowdfunding their game idea.
Each project is reviewed to ensure it follows the Square Enix Collective guidelines and goes through a "due diligence process" to certify those behind the idea have the tools and expertise to make the game. Square Enix will help developers set budgets for the ideas as well.
Developers whose projects pass the test will be given the opportunity to work with old Eidos intellectual property (IP) from the company's back catalog. Information on the IP and the program will be detailed at GDC Next in Los Angeles on November 5-7.
