Screeners Allowed for Oscar Animated Award Categories
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences changed the rules for its animated film categories to allow more voters to participate. The rule change will allow voters to use DVD or Blu-ray screener copies of the films to participate. Prior to the rule change, voting was only opened to Los Angeles-based volunteers who could attend qualifying theater screenings.
The Short Films and Feature Animation branch consists of about 400 members and is chaired by Jon Bloom and Disney-Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter and Bill Kroyer. The branch does not get to determine its corresponding nominees, however, while other Academy branches do.
