Sony CEO: No Plans to Sell Vita TV in West Yet
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House stated in a roundtable press discussion that there are no plans to bring the PlayStation Vita TV system to the United States or Europe at this time.
House said, "SCE will release the PS Vita TV in Japan November 14, 2013, and in other countries after that. The reason why it will be launched in Japan earlier than in other countries is that there is no leading company in Japan's video streaming market. The company is planning to sell the PS Vita TV in China, South Korea, etc, but not in the US and European market at this point."
The new system will allow the user to play PlayStation Vita games on the television, download PlayStation Portable and PlayStation games, and access various video and web services. In addition, the system will be able to connect remotely to the upcoming PlayStation 4 system, allowing for wireless play.
The PlayStation Vita TV is a small (6.5 cm x 10.5 cm x 1.36 cm) box without sticks, buttons, or screens that comes with a wireless DualShock 3 controller. PlayStation Vita games can be placed directly into the system, and the system can connect to the television via its HDMI port and to the controller via its USB port. A standby mode is available to save energy.
