More Oldboy Posters Surface as 2nd Park Film Gets Remade
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
A viral poster campaign for Spike Lee's remake of Chan-wook Park's live-action Oldboy film began circulating on Tuesday. The tongue-in-cheek photos advertise "Hotel Oldboy" which links to a promotional website of cameras "watching" Joe Douchette (Josh Brolin) during his 20 years in captivity. The posters are from the film's official Facebook page. The film is slated to open on November 27.
Lee shot his remake with Brolin (Milk, Men in Black 3), actress Elizabeth Olsen (Silent House, Martha Marcy May Marlene), Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team), Samuel L. Jackson (Jungle Fever, Pulp Fiction, The Avengers), and James Ransone (Sinister, Inside Man, The Next Three Days) last fall.
A green band trailer began streaming on Thursday.
Director Park's Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, the first part of his Vengenace trilogy (Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) is also tapped for an English-language remake. Hany Abu-Assad (The Courier, Paradise Now) will direct the adaptation. A script by Brian Tucker (Broken City) was picked up by Silver Reel, Lotus Entertainment, Di Bonaventura Pictures and CJ Entertainment.
The original film follows a deaf-mute man whose attempt to pay for his sister's kidney transplant spawns a series of violent encounters.
