Artist and secretary Hiro Adachi revealed on his Twitter account on Monday that science-fiction writer Ryuichi Kaneko (Elementhunters SF setting, RahXephon design researcher) passed away on Saturday. Kaneko was born in 1956.
According to Adachi, Kaneko suffered from a brain hemorrhage before summer started, and had been hospitalized. He had recovered and was undergoing rehabilitation at a rehabilitation specialty hospital, but the brain hemorrhage resurfaced on August 28. He underwent emergency surgery, but passed away on Saturday without regaining consciousness or breathing on his own again.
Kaneko also worked as a science-fiction researcher for such anime as Uchu Kubo Blue Noah, Kyoryu Wakusei, Gene Diver, and Kyuumei Senshi Nanosaver, and he was a science reference book writer himself. SoftBank Creative published his latest book, a reference book titled Zowa Zowa Shita Ikimono-tachi: Koseidaii no Kyodai Sessoku Dobutsu (Fidgeting Organisms: Giant Arthropods of the Paleozoic Era, pictured above right), in 2012.
