Attack No.1 Volleyball Manga Gets Comedy Remake

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
"Hot-blooded short comedy" follows Kozue & Japan's team to Grand Champion's Cup

This year's 17th issue of Shueisha's Margaret magazine is announcing on Monday a remake of Chikako Urano's Attack No. 1 volleyball manga titled Attack No. 1~Gurachan-hen~ (Attack No. 1: Grand Champion's Cup). Ryō Azuki (W Pinch, Seishun Shiteru Kai!) will pen the manga, and it will launch in the magazine's 19th issue on September 9.

The "hot-blooded short comedy" will focus on Kozue Ayuhara, a girl who made it to Japan's women's volleyball team. Her team includes Saori Kimura, Yukiko Ebata, and Coach Masayoshi Manabe. Together, they aim to win at the Grand Champion's Cup, one of the top competitions in the sport.

Chikako Urano originally serialized the Attack No. 1 manga in Margaret from 1968 to 1970. It was adapted into a television anime in 1969-1971, and a live-action drama series in 2005. Another remake of the manga was published in Margaret in 2004-2005 under the title Shin Attack No. 1 (New Attack No. 1), and was penned by Kanon Ozawa.
