Saki Episode of Side A Gets Spin-Off Manga in September

Side story of -Saki-: Shinohayu: the dawn of age manga announced at the end of side-A's final chapter

The final chapter of Ritz Kobayashi and Aguri Igarashi's Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A manga is announcing in the 8th issue of Square-Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine on Thursday that a spin-off manga of Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A titled Side story of -Saki-: Shinohayu: the dawn of age will begin in the magazine's October issue, which is scheduled to be released in Japan on September 25. The two creators had hinted in March that they would be publishing a new work in the magazine, but did not specify if the work would be a Saki tie-in.

Kobayashi and Igarashi launched Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A in Square-Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in August 2011 as a spin-off to Kobayashi's original Saki manga. Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A follows childhood friends Shizuno Takakamo and Ako Atarashi as they attempt to revive the mahjong club at Achiga Girl's Academy and compete against their former classmate, Nodoka. The fifth compiled volume shipped in Japan in April.

The manga inspired a 12-episode anime adaptation last year and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. More special episodes were announced in June. The first aired in December, followed by the second on January 29 and two more aired afterward.

Ritz Kobayashi's original Saki manga is still ongoing in Square-Enix's Young Gangan magazine, although Kobayashi revealed in February that the manga is on extended hiatus due to her recent surgery.
