North American publisher Vertical announced on Thursday at Anime Expo that it has licensed Moyoco Anno's (Hataraki Man, Sugar Sugar Rune, Happy Mania) Insufficient Direction (Kantoku Fuyuki Todoki) manga.
Anno's one-volume Insufficient Direction autobiographical essay manga centers on Anno's married life with her husband, director Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion). The comedic and heartwarming book follows their "otaku lifestyle" and also features an "otaku glossary" with 20,000 words. Anno launched the series in Shodensha's Feel Young magazine in 2002 and Shodensha published the compiled volume in 2005.
Vertical published Anno's one-volume Sakuran manga last July. Viz Media previously published Anno's Flowers and Bees manga in North America, Tokyopop published her Happy Mania, and Del Rey published her Sugar Sugar Rune series, the latter of which received an anime adaptation in 2005-2006. The new Manga Reborn website is also working with Anno to publish a few of her manga digitally, including Chameleon Army, The Five Buffalo Girls, Jelly Beans, and Insufficient Direction.
