On Monday July 1, StudioCanal will release two classic Studio Ghibli films as Blu-ray/DVD combo packs: Hayao Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service and Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies.
Originally released in 1989, Kiki's Delivery Service is the story of a 13 year-old trainee witch who must leave her parents and make an independent life for herself in a beautiful European city. Grave of the Fireflies (1988) is a tragic drama about two young children trying to survive in war-torn Japan in 1945.
Also on Monday, MVM is releasing the 1994 OAV series Iria - Zeiram the Animation on one DVD disc (below right). Iria is a girl, a skilled space bounty hunter, who investigates what has happened to the crew and cargo of a Space Station. She comes up against Zeiram, a carnivorous bioweapon. The series features character designs by Masakazu Katsura (I''s, Tiger & Bunny).
In addition, MVM is due to release the delayed first volume of Bakemonogatari, which had been scheduled for release in June, but was then recalled due to the wrong discs being packed.
Manga Entertainment is releasing the second box-set of One Piece, carrying episodes 27 to 53 of the series.
Update - Delayed release of Bakemonogatari added.
