Shippū Nijimarugumi Gangster Manga Gets Live-Action Show, Film

A live-action television and film adaptation of the delinquent gang manga Shippū Nijimarugumi by Shinya Kuwahara (Warriors of Tao, R-16) has been green-lit. The project will begin as a television series, but a theatrical film release is also planned. Manpei Takagi will play the main character Yun Nijikawa, while Toshi Takeuchi will play fellow deliqneunt Yukimaru Haguro. Norihisa Yoshimura is directing the film and the first three television episodes, and Masatsugi Takase is directing the last three episodes.
The original manga revolves around the fight between various “yankee” (delinquent) gangs in order to attain “Infinity Gold,” a treasure that is awarded to the number one gang in the area.
The manga is currently serializing in Shonengahosha's Young King magazine, and the ninth compiled volume of the manga was released in Japan in April. Tokyopop published Kuwahara's Warriors of Tao in North America.
