posted on by Egan Loo
Veteran anime studio Tatsunoko Productions (Gatchaman, Casshern, Yatterman) produced a 145-second anime short to promote Wednesday's release of Kazuhiko Shimamoto's third Hero Company manga volume.
The action comedy manga follows workers at a giant corporation that is dedicated to protecting people from disasters and other events all over the world. In the ad, the folks on the roster list their favorite sweets: Daichi Hadou (cream puffs), Ginga Amano (chocolate with nuts), Syun Busou (ice cream), Hikaru Hyu-ga (parfait), and Saki Tsurugi ("anything"). Together, they transform into the superheroes Dessert Five: Choco Red, Macaron Navy, Langue de Chat White, Soft Ice Cream Yellow, and Parfait Pink.
Shimamoto launched the manga in the inaugural issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Hero's magazine in 2011. The creator is known for other over-the-top comedies such as Blazing Transfer Student (Honō no Tenkōsei), Anime Tenchō, and Hoero Pen. (There are already Blazing Transfer Student and Anime Tenchō anime.) He also created more serious fare such as Aoi Honōo and The Skull Man, his interpretation of Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic anti-hero manga.
