Shonen Jump Launches 3-Language Manga Contest
posted on by Egan Loo
Viz Media revealed at its Shonen Jump panel at FanimeCon on Sunday that Shueisha is launching a manga contest in three languages. The contest celebrates the 45th anniversary of the original Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
Shonen Jump will accept manga entries in English, Japanese, and Chinese via the contest's official website. Four prizes will be awarded: a grand prize, followed by a top prize for English, Japanese, and Chinese entries.
All prize winners will receive 500,000 yen (about US$4,900) each and guaranteed publication in Shonen Jump, one of its special edition issues, and/or North America's Weekly Shonen Jump, China's OK! Comic, and Taiwan's Formosa Youth manga magazines.
Manga entries must:
- be received by October 1
- fall into the shonen (boy) comic genre
- be original works
- not have been previously published
Entries may be 15, 19, 31, or 45 pages long. Submissions will be judged by Shueisha's Shonen Jump editorial department and the editors-in-chief of the participating publications. A reader popularity poll on the official website will also be taken into consideration.
Competing entries will be announced in November and be available to view online between November and December. The winners will be announced between December and early 2014.
