4 Middle Schoolers Arrested for Threatening Akihabara Otaku for Money
posted on by Egan Loo
Police arrested four middle-school third-year boys from Tokyo's Akishima City for allegedly threatening six other middle school students for money near Tokyo's Akihabara Station in March. The suspects reportedly demanded the wallets from the six victims from Yamanashi Prefecture and other areas, threatened them with a fistfight otherwise, and took over 30,000 yen (about US$300).
According to the authorities, the four boys have stolen nearly 140,000 yen (US$1,400) in 12 incidents since last November. The suspects reportedly admitted to the crimes, saying that they targeted otaku in Akihabara since they have money.
