City of Beppu Collaborates with Tatsunoko Production to Promote Tourism
posted on by Karen Ressler
The city of Beppu in Kyūshū, home to one of Japan's major hot spring resorts, is collaborating with Tokyo-based anime studio Tatsunoko Production Co. to promote tourism and overnight stays at its resorts. From April 27 through May 12, the city set up two displays in different locations in the city that included various exhibits such as life-sized character panels and figures of characters from various Tatsunoko properties.
Tatsunoko Production is also creating an original anime featuring characters from Beppu and various Tatsunoko characters, and 13 local hot springs are being decorated with Tatsunoko Production-related items.
The promotion is set to continue year-round, with features such as a stamp print collecting event, a screening of the live-action feature film adaptation of Gatchaman, the unveiling of an original Beppu character, and a video clip of Hatsune Miku.
Tatsunoko Production celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with the Ippatsu Hicchū!! Devander anime. The company holds the rights to Gatchaman, the Time Bokan franchise, Speed Racer, Casshan, and other anime titles popular in Japan and overseas.
