Tough/Riki-Oh's Saruwatari Starts Wrestler Manga Lock Up
posted on by Egan Loo
This year's 12th issue of Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine announced on Wednesday that Tetsuya Saruwatari is launching his Lock Up manga series in the next issue on June 5. Saruwatari created such well-known fighting manga as Tough and Riki-Oh. His next series will center around Samson Takagi, a professional wrestler with only one year left to live.
The story expands on Saruwatari's earlier 45-page preview manga Tadayoedo Shizumazu, which ran in Grand Jump last December. That manga introduced Takagi as a wrestler caught in the middle of a struggle between the yakuza and street gangs.
Lock Up will have a color opening page in its first 46-page chapter, and it will also adorn the cover of the next issue.
Saruwatari also launched another new series titled Gokusai in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine last September, after creating a three-chapter Tough spinoff called Devils x Devil: Kiryu in Paris. Saruwatari ended his Tough manga in July, and its 39th book volume shipped in Japan on August 17. The manga inspired the original video anime Shootfighter Tekken in 2004.
