Kuroko's Basketball, Assassination Classroom's 1st Books Each Top 1 Million Copies in Print

The first volume of Tadatoshi Fujimaki's Kuroko's Basketball manga now has over one million copies in print. The manga began in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2008, and the 22 current volumes have over 19 million copies in print. Shueisha gave the first volume an initial print run of 50,000 copies in April 2009.
Nobuo Sumino, the head of Shueisha's comics and contents sales department, reported in The Tsukuru magazine in April that the next volume of the original manga could have a print run of more than 1 million copies in August, thanks to the anime's current rerun and the new season this fall.
Yūsei Matsui's first Assassination Classroom manga volume also topped one million copies in print, even though it just debuted last November and has no anime or live-action adaptation announcements. Matsui (Neuro - Supernatural Detective) launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump last July. The first volume's initial print run was 300,000, but it has had several reprints including this month's reprint that pushed it over 1 million.
