posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The crowdfunding and streaming service Anime Sols opened on Monday with several titles, including the Ninja Robot Tobikage (Ninja Robots) television anime. Visitors in the United States and Canada can sign up to watch episodes and make pledges toward the DVD release of these anime.
The original Ninja Senshi Tobikage television series ran for 43 episodes in 1985-1986. Anime Sols describes the story:
It is the year 2200. Mankind seeks out new places to live by migrating to the moon and Mars. One day, Joe, who lives on Mars, witnesses a battle between unknown aliens. Those warriors are sent by the emperor Zaboom, who is conspiring to rule the Universe. They are after a princess of Planet Radorio, who has just escaped from the emperor. Joe, who happens to be at the battle scene, wields his three mechanical devices against the warriors, but is no match for them. Then Tobikage appears, a mysterious ninja robot, and saves Joe and the princess...
The series aired under the title Ninja Robots in the United States on Cartoon Network in 1995. The first four episodes are streaming now on Anime Sols, with new episodes added on Wednesdays.
Anime Sols' starting lineup also includes the Black Jack television anime, the original Yatterman television anime and its 2008 remake, Tezuka's Aoi Blink television anime and Marine Express, Fumoon, and Bander Book films, Tekkaman, the Space Knight, and Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel.
Japan's Yomiuri Group announced this crowdsourcing venture with anime studios Pierrot, Tezuka Productions, and Tatsunoko Productions in November.
