Funimation Consolidates Divisions Under Group 1200 Media Name
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
North American anime distributor FUNimation Entertainment revealed on Monday that in "an effort to emphasize the company's expanding portfolio of entertainment content and products" the company is consolidating its existing divisions under the name Group 1200 Media as of May 18. Funimation confirmed with ANN that the company has not been bought or sold, and Gen Fukunaga will still remain CEO of the company. Funimation also confirmed that there will be no change in Funimation's day-to-day operations.
Additionally, Funimation confirmed that the change will not affect the consumers, as consumers will "continue to see anime releases under the FUNimation label and live action genre films under the Giant Ape Media label."
Funimation also noted it is working to create a more global brand while avoiding the confusion it has encountered with various new business partners. Funimation told ANN it "wanted to create a new 'umbrella' name showing [it is] handling various forms of entertainment. Therefore, under the Group 1200 Media 'umbrella' name will be three business units: FUNimation Entertainment, Giant Ape Media and Group 1200 Products (GameSamba and Immerz)."
