Manga creator Aya Kanno reported on Monday that her third Makoto no Kuni chapter debuted in the June issue of Hakusensha's Bessatsu Hana to Yume magazine issue last Friday. Kanno also revealed that the serialization originally supposed to be only four chapters long, but it has been extended to five, leaving two more chapters to tie up the story. The first chapter launched in Betsuhana on February 26.
The series focuses on Saitō Hajime and Hijikata Toshizō of The Shinsen-gumi, the police force from the Bakumatsu era that spelled the end of the shoguns' rule over Japan. The new story is set in the Aizu region of northern Japan.
Kanno first delved into The Shinsen-gumi with her Hokusō Shinsengumi manga, and it has been eight years since her last Shinsengumi manga, Kōtetsu no Hana.
