Last Pet Girl of Sakurasou Light Novel Slated for July

Hajime Kamoshida's romantic comedy series inspired 24-episode TV anime, game, manga

ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint revealed in a newsletter on Thursday that Hajime Kamoshida and Keeji Mizoguchi's Sakurasō no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) light novel series will end with the 10th volume on July 10. The ninth volume had shipped on March 9, and Kamoshida had revealed in the eighth volume's postscript last October that he will end the story in two more volumes.

The light novel series inspired a 24-episode television anime series last year. The school romantic comedy revolves around a high school sophomore named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakura-sou, the dormitory for problem children at Sorata's school. One day, Mashiro Shiina — a cute girl who happens to be also a cosmopolitan, brilliant artist — moves into Sakurasou.

Sorata thinks to himself that he should protect Mashiro from the weirdos at Sakurasou, but Mashiro has a surprising secret: she has no idea how to take care of herself. She gets lost if she goes out, and her room is a complete mess. Sorata's dorm mates designate him as the "master" of Mashiro, and thus, an ordinary boy and a brilliant girl must live like "a master and his pet."

Crunchyroll streamed the anime version as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series in North America.

Kamoshida launched the light novel series in 2010. The story also inspired a manga series that Hōki Kusano started in 2011 as well as a drama CD. The series also inspired a video game that Kadokawa Games released in Japan on the PlayStation Portable and PS Vita in February.
