Nintendo Posts US$366 Million Annual Loss & 3DS Game Sales Figures

Nintendo released its financial numbers for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2013 on Wednesday. The company posted a 36.4 billion yen operating loss (US$366 million), its second year in a row. Nintendo cites Wii U sales as a "negative impact on Nintendo's profits." Console sales have failed to meet projections, with a total of 3.45 million Wii U consoles sold since its launch in November. The company originally estimated sales at 5.5 million units before lowering estimates to 4 million units. Approximately 13.42 million Wii U titles have sold globally.
The company also posted sales figures for its Nintendo 3DS handheld console titles as of March 31. A total of 49.61 million 3DS games sold worldwide. Top-selling games included:
- Super Mario 3D Land – 8.29 million
- Mario Kart 7 – 8.08 million
- New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 6.42 million
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 3.86 million (Japan-only)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D – 2.95 million
