Medaka Box Spinoff Manga Good Loser Kumagawa to End
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The summer issue of Shueisha's Jump Next! magazine will publish the "concluding chapter" of the Medaka Box spinoff manga Good Loser Kumagai. Medaka Box creators NisiOisin and Akira Akatsuki launched the manga in Shueisha's seasonal Jump Next! magazine in December 2011. The spinoff manga focuses on the character Misogi Kumagawa, and was also included in the 15th volume of NisiOisin and Akatsuki's main Medaka Box manga when it shipped last April. Good Loser Kumagawa also spawned a novel that Shueisha published in two books in October and November last year.
This year's combined 22nd/23rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is also publishing the final chapter of the main Medaka Box manga on Saturday. The manga centers around Medaka, the strongest girl in Hakoniwa Academy and head of the school's student council. The student body can submit pleas for help into the suggestion box that Medaka installed. Together with council members Zenkichi, Akune, and Kikaijima, she takes on the challenges in the school that include supernatural powers and near-constant battles.
The manga launched in 2009, and Shueisha will publish the 21st volume in June. The story inspired two television anime seasons, and Crunchyroll streamed both seasons into several countries as they aired. Sentai Filmworks also licensed both seasons in North America.
