Jin Toriyama: 2 18+ titles put on hiatus due to police investigation for violations

Adult video director and erotic novel writer Jin Toriyama reported on Tuesday that Core Magazine's Comic Mega Store magazine would be suspended indefinitely. This occurred after the April 17 release of the adult manga magazine's June issue. The author explained that a police investigation led to the suspension.

According to Toriyama, Nyan 2 Club, a magazine for reader-submitted adult photographs, is also under investigation by the authorities. Both magazines are under suspicion of violating Article 175 of Japan's criminal code ("any person who distributes, sells or publicly displays an obscene writing, picture, or other object…shall be punished with imprisonment and forced labor for not more than two years or fined…"). Although Toriyama said that the latter magazine's material was found to be fairly risque, both magazines were marked with the 18+ label.

“This just proves once again that self-regulation is not enough to deter the police,” Toriyama wrote, “I'm always saying this, but Article 175 is a 'cheat law' (even if there are no victims, they can still make arrests), and it is extremely difficult to avoid it once you are targeted.”
