Sketchbook Comedy Manga Inspires Side Story
posted on by Joanne Mertz
Totan Kobako's Sketchbook manga inspired a side story in the April issue of Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Blade magazine on Thursday. The side story celebrates the 11th anniversary of the original slice-of-life comedy series.
The new story focuses on a group of cats and follows the original 4-panel comic's style. Sketchbook's ninth compiled book volume is scheduled to ship in Japan on May 10 in regular and limited-edition versions. The limited-edition version will bundle a mini art book with a compilation of color illustrations.
Sketchbook debuted in Monthly Comic Blade in 2002, and a 13-episode anime adaptation, Sketchbook ~full color'S~, followed in 2007. The story revolves around Sora Kajiwara, a shy girl who enjoys drawing in her sketchbook. Sora joins the Art Club at her school, and encounters many colorful and eccentric characters, including befriending the Stray Cats in her neighborhood.
