Girls und Panzer Event to be Held in Anime's Hometown of Oarai
posted on by Karen Ressler
The town of Oarai in Ibaraki Prefecture will be holding an event celebrating anime series Girls und Panzer. The event will be part of the town's yearly spring festival.
The anime's story follows Miho, a girl who just transferred into the Oarai Girls' Academy in Ibaraki Prefecture. She finds herself alone at first, but then joins the "senshadō" (tank combat) course — in this school, the girls drive real-life tanks the way girls in other schools take archery or kendō sword fighting. Miho's Ankō (Angler Fish) Team competes with the other teams. The anime takes place in the seaside town of Oarai, and utilizes many actual landmarks and locations as a setting for the story.
The details of the Girls und Panzer event have not yet been finalized, but the spring festival itself will feature numerous other events, including a swordfish carving show. The festival will be held on March 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Oarai Marine Tower.
