Blood's Katsuya Terada to Return to The Monkey King Manga

posted on by Egan Loo
Story inspired by Chinese classic Journey to the West to run in Ultra Jump

The March issue of Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine announced on Tuesday that illustrator Katsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire) will resume his manga series The Monkey King (Saiyukiden Daienō) for a short run, starting in the following issue on March 19. Terada is not only illustrating the next issue's cover, but also contributing a pin-up poster.

In this manga, Terada offers his own violent interpretation of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West that inspired Dragon Ball, Saiyuki, and scores of other manga and anime. He serialized the manga in Ultra Jump over a decade ago, but has taken frequent breaks in its serialization. Shueisha published second volume of the manga in 2010, 12 years after the first volume. Dark Horse published the second volume of the manga last year.
