Maiden Japan Adds Ballad of a Shinigami Anime
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The North American anime licensing company Maiden Japan announced on Monday that it has licensed the Momo, Girl God of Death ~ Ballad of a Shinigami (Shinigami no Ballad: momo the girl god of death) six-episode anime series. The company will work with Section23 Films to release the series digitally and on a bilingual DVD.
Tomomi Mochizuki (House of Five Leaves, Twin Spica) directed the anime series. Reiko Yoshida (Bakuman., K-ON!, Romeo × Juliet) handled the series composition and scripts, and Moka (Colorful, Elfen Lied) handled the music. The series stars Ai Shimizu as Daniel and Akiko Kobayashi as Momo. The show originally aired in Japan in 2006.
The show is based on K-Ske Hasegawa (Keisuke Hasegawa's) and Nanakusa's original light novel series, which revolves around Momo, a death god dressed in white who wields a blunt scythe and has a winged black cat named Daniel at her side. Unlike other death gods, Momo opens her heart to those who cross over to the other side.
Seven Seas Entertainment released the first two of the 12-volume light novel series in North America 2008. CMX Manga published Asuka Izumi's three-volume manga version of the series in North America.
