Nickelodeon to Air Digimon Fusion Anime Series
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Saban Brands announced on Tuesday that the Digimon Fusion television anime series will air on Nickelodeon this year. The announcement notes that the series is the sixth installment of the Digimon franchise, and describes the series as follows:
Digimon Fusion is the all-new animated series and sixth installment of the Digimon franchise, the longest-running Japanese anime property. The series will feature all-new Digimon action and excitement following Mikey, a human boy, who is transported into the digital realm and must team up with his new “Digimon” or “Digital Monster” friends before their world is deleted once and for all. New fusion powers allow Digimon to combine and fuse their abilities to create endless battle possibilities.
Digimon Xros Wars, the original name of the sixth Digimon television anime series, premiered in Japan in 2010, and its follow-up Digimon Xros Wars: Toki o Kakeru Shōnen Hunter-tachi premiered in October 2011. Neither of these television series have aired in North America yet, but Crunchyroll streamed the first series and simulcast the second series as it aired in Japan.
Saban announced last September that it had acquired the Digimon anime franchise outside of Asia, and that it is working with Marvista Entertainment to distribute the series outside of Asia. In October, Saban debuted the series to potential broadcasters and distributors at the MIPCOM event in Cannes, France.
