Hunter x Hunter Film Tops Box Office With 457 Million Yen

The Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge anime film opened on Saturday and usurped the #1 spot from One Piece Film Z. The 11th One Piece feature film held the top spot for four consecutive weekends since it opened on December 15.
Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge sold 357,976 tickets its opening weekend and earned 456,779,000 yen (about US$5,143,930) on 257 screens. By comparison, One Piece Film Z film earned 1,372,050,000 yen (US$16,339,700) its opening weekend.
Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo surpassed the 5-billion-yen (US$56 million) threshold as of January 12. It will expand to 94 theaters nationwide on January 26; of those 94, 85 are newly added theaters.
The story of Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge centers around the character Kurapika, who became a hunter to seek revenge on the Phantom Troupe for the massacre of his clan. The film featured the new character Omokage, the person with the No. 4 spider tattoo. The film is based on an unpublished story manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi wrote around 10 years ago.
1 million copies of the Hunter X Hunter Volume 0 manga were awarded to movie-goers. The film also announced that a second film is in production.
