Touhou Project Dōjinshi Event Cancelled Due to Threat
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The organizers of the Touhou Project dōjinshi event "Touhou Kamuisai 7" announced on Thursday that the event has been cancelled. In the posted notice, the organizers noted that the event was cancelled due to the recent spate of threat letters that have captured national attention. The organizers did not say if any threat letter or letters were specifically directed at this particular event. The event was scheduled to be held at the Sapporo Teisen Hall in Hokkaido on February 24.
The organizers will refund the dōjinshi circles that had planned to attend the event.
Studio You, the company that organizes the Kuroko's Basketball-themed "Shadow Trickster" dōjinshi events across Japan, also announced on Thursday that the "Shadow Trickster Sapporo" event has been cancelled. The studio specifically cited the recent string of threats surrounding the Kuroko's Basketball franchise.
The "Shadow Trickster Sapporo" event was scheduled to be held at the same Sapporo Teisen Hall as "Touhou Kamuisai 7," but two weeks earlier on February 10. The "Shadow Trickster Sapporo" organizers had originally planned to increase security, perform bag checks, and take other safety precautions. However, after the event hall received a threat letter or letters, the organizers decided to cancel the event altogether.
