Shizukanaru Don - Yakuza Side Story Manga Ends After 24 Years

Tatsuo Nitta's Shizukanaru Don - Yakuza Side Story manga reached its final chapter on Tuesday in Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's Manga Sunday magazine's first issue of 2013. In the author's afternotes for the 1,175th chapter, Nitta revealed that he had completed the final chapter this past July, and also wrote, "I just felt that I had written more than enough." 105 volumes of the series have sold about 44 million copies since the series began 24 years ago in 1988.
The manga launched in 1988, and Manga Sunday switched the series from a weekly schedule to a twice-a-month one this past June. However, Nitta continued drawing it as a weekly series since he hated getting out of his rhythm, so he created the last chapter almost half a year ago. In the current issue, columnist Bourbon Kobayashi and Nitta talked over four pages about the series and how it developed in the past 24 years.
The 108th and final volume of the series will ship before next summer.
