Saiyuki Ibun Manga Resumes After 28-Month Hiatus
posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Kazuya Minekura resumed her Saiyuki Ibun manga in the 30th issue of Ichijinsha's Zero-Sum Ward magazine on Friday. The last chapter of the manga before the hiatus was published in Zero-Sum Ward's 16th issue in July of 2010 — two years and four months ago.
Minekura had put her manga series work on hiatus in 2010 due to surgery for ameloblastoma, a noncancerous tumor on her right upper jawbone. In addition to Saiyuki Ibun, she also plans to resume her Wild Adapter "hard-boiled action" manga next spring.
Saiyuki Ibun recounts the early life of the man who would become the pivotal character Kōmyō, Genjō Sanzō's mentor, years before the first Saiyuki fantasy adventure storyline.
Kazuya Minekura launched the manga in 2009, and also launched a series called Saiyuki Reload Blast in Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine that same year.
