Production I.G Makes Original Anime with Mercedes-Benz
posted on by Egan Loo
The anime studio Production I.G is collaborating with the global luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz on an original anime which will debut on Saturday. Mercedes-Benz's official Japanese site will present the anime to tie into its "Next A-Class" campaign for the new generation of compact cars.
The six-minute anime short is set in Tokyo in the near future. The three protagonists go on a high-speed pursuit of "a certain" target in the new A-Class car.
Mizuho Nishikubo (Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai, Zillion) directed the anime with animator Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Blood+). Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children) designed the characters, and Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, Gantz, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) scored the music.
A trailer for the anime will run as a commercial on television and in major theaters. During the Fuji Sprint Cup 2012 race from Friday to Sunday, an SLS AMG GT3 car will be wrapped with the "Next A-Class" art. After the six-minute anime short, I.G and Mercedes-Benz are planning to continue the collaboration in December and beyond.
