1st 2 Madoka Magica Films Earn Over 1 Billion Yen

The total earnings of the first and second Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies have surpassed 1 billion yen (about US$12.6 million) at the Japanese box office. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal have only played in 43 theaters throughout Japan, but received requests from other areas to play the film as well. As a result, 26 more theaters will play the two movies from November 23 to December 1.
The first film has sold about 357,000 tickets, earning about 520 million yen (about US$6.5 million). The second movie opened one week later and has sold about 336,000 tickets, earning about 480 million yen (about US$6 million).
