The Wii massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Dragon Quest X Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online has about 400,000 subscribers, up 100,000 since September. Each subscriber pays 1,000 yen (about US$13) a month. As a result, Square Enix anticipates the game will make a profit in the next fiscal year.
The game sold about 608,000 copies since it shipped in Japan on August 2, as of October 28. The game is the first multi-player online Dragon Quest game and retails for 6,980 yen (about US$86) while the Wii disc plus USB memory version costs 8,980 yen (US$111).
By comparison, Square Enix's other MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI, peaked at about 600,000 subscribers.
