posted on by Egan Loo
The North American video distributor Discotek Media announced on Wednesday that it licensed the Thermae Romae television anime series.
The three flash-animated episodes by studio DLE Inc. (Eagle Talon) aired on Fuji TV's late-night Noitamina programming block in January.
The story follows Roman bathhouse architect Lucius. After losing his job, he goes to a bathhouse to relax only to find himself transported to modern-day Japan.
The anime is based on Mari Yamazaki's Thermae Romae manga. The work won the Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) award last year, followed by the Short Work Prize in the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes. Yen Press publishes the manga in English.
A live-action adaptation starring Hiroshi Abe and Aya Ueto, opened in Japan in July. The Toronto International Film Festival hosted the North American premiere last month.
Discotek will release the Thermae Romae series next year.
