Detroit's Maid Cafe 'Chou Anime' Closes Its Doors
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Detroit's Midtown district maid cafe, Chou Anime Café, closed its doors last month. The company opened in June, and, according to the company's website, the last day of operation was September 22. The post cites lack of steady customers inevitably led to café closing.
The restaurant featured girls (and one male) greeting guests as "Master" or "my Princess." The café served Great Lakes coffees, salads, sandwiches, wraps, sushi and imported Japanese sweets. For an added fee, the maids played board, card, and video games with customers.
Chou Anime Café was briefly the only operating maid café in the United States, after California's Royal/T Maid Café closed its doors in August. Similar past attempts included Far Out Toys in San Jose, California and the iMaid Café in Scarborough, Ontario, which opened in 2006 and closed in 2007 due to unpaid back rent.
