posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Fuji TV will air a special fall 2012 episode of its Yo ni mo Kimyō na Monogatari (Tales of the Unusual) television drama on October 6 featuring a live-action adaptation of Shun Umezawa's "Hate Virus" one-shot manga. The Yo ni mo Kimyō na Monogatari specials, which may air a few times a year, are a compilation of short stories from multiple genres.
The cast for the "Hate Virus" segment includes SMAP member Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (Hime-chan's Ribbon's Kouichi) Ren Mori (H2, Beginners!) and Toru Shinagawa (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Masayuki Ochiai (Shutter) will direct the segment.
"Hate Virus," compiled in Umezawa's Utopias anthology (pictured at right), takes place in a futuristic world where a person's hateful emotions are amplified due a virus. Researchers start to research into a cure to eradicate the virus, and as people begin to rely on prescription drugs to repel the epidemic, a Utopian society begins to form.
Shogakukan released Umezawa's Utopias anthology in Japan in 2006.
