2 Arrested for Making Unauthorized Anime Goods With Disabled Workers

Police in Shizuoka Prefecture arrested two male suspects on Wednesday on suspicion of making pin badges and photo frames with Evangelion, One Piece, and other anime images without the copyright holders' permission. A 39-year-old Shizuoka resident and a 38-year-od Fuji resident allegedly admitted to making the items by using disabled people in an employment support facility.
The suspects would then allegedly sell the items in capsule vending machines for 300 yen (about US$4) per badge and 1,000 yen (US$13) per photo frame during the past year. About 250 badges and 68 photo frames were confiscated.
The 39-year-old suspect is the former head of a major Fuji recycling shop and the current head of the employment support facility for 20 disabled people. The 38-year-old suspect is the current head of the recycling shop.
